Trustee Message: Corbett Kalama Named New Trustee

February 5, 2007

Contributed by CEO Message

The Board of Trustees, along with our CEO Team and the entire faculty and staff look forward to welcoming Corbett to the Board as he joins Kamehameha at a very exciting time in our history. He joins us at the mid-way point of implementing our 15-year Strategic Plan, which guides us in educating more Native Hawaiians within communities across our state, stewarding our lands and strengthening our culture. Corbett also comes aboard as Kamehameha is enjoying a period of unprecedented growth in its endowment which promises even further service to those whom our founder intended to benefit. We look forward to the benefit of Corbett's thoughts, talents and experience in all aspects of fulfilling Pauahi's wishes through her trust.

Corbett comes to Kamehameha Schools from First Hawaiian Bank, where he is Executive Vice President and Region Manager of the O'ahu Region Office. He is also the Personal Banking and Small Business Banking Segment Manager. He has been with First Hawaiian since 1982. He also serves as a board member or advisor to public and private organizations, including the Samoan Service Providers Association; John A. Burns School of Medicine – 'Imi Ho'ola Advisory Board; the Friends of Hawai'i Charities; Pacific Islanders in Communications; University of Hawai'i Foundation (Trustee); Polynesian Voyaging Society and several others.

While the bulk of his professional career has been in banking, Corbett has also been an English and Reading teacher at Kailua High School and with the Honolulu Community Action Program. He earned a B.S. in Economics from the Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University), and a graduate degree in banking from the Pacific Coast Banking School - University of Washington. Corbett and his wife, Sandy, have two sons and two daughters.

As happy as we are to welcome Corbett to the Board, our happiness is tempered by the knowledge that we are also bidding aloha to Trustee Constance Lau, whose tenure with Kamehameha will end April 1. All of us who have had the privilege to work with Connie know what a blessing and gift she has been to Kamehameha Schools, and we bid her the fondest of aloha as she moves ahead into the next chapter of her life. Please join us in welcoming Trustee Kalama to the Board, and in saying aloha and mahalo palena 'ole – gratitude beyond measure – to Trustee Lau as she departs.

Me ke aloha pumehana,

J. Douglas Ing, Chair
Board of Trustees
