Successor Trustee Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the Trustees have input into Trustee Kihune's replacement?
A: They may be asked questions by the committee during the screening process. However, they have not nominated or endorsed any applicants in the past

Q: Who can apply to be a Trustee?
A: Applications are open to everyone and inquiries should be directed to the committee, once the Court appoints the members.

Q: How are members of the Screening Committee selected?
A: The members of the Screening Committee are selected entirely at the discretion of the Court.

Q: How long will the new Trustee's term last?
A: The new Trustee will serve an initial term of 5-years, and can seek reappointment for one additional 5-year term.

Q: Can the Screening Committee look outside of Hawai'i?
A: There is no requirement that a Trustee be a resident of Hawai'i.

Q: Who can attend meetings of the Screening Committee?
A: As a confidential matter, the meetings and deliberations of the Screening Committee are not open to the public.

Q: Will you provide information about the selection process as it is proceeding?
A: Since the committee's work is confidential, we will not have any information about the committee's activities.
