Statement regarding the passing of Senator Daniel K. Inouye

December 18, 2012

Contributed by ksinfo

As our nation and, indeed, the world, has come to know from his years of service and outstanding accomplishments, the Senator was a champion for fairness and peace for all. Yet even as he balanced vital matters of national security, global relations and domestic policy, we always felt that he kept an especially close eye on matters involving Native Hawaiians. We know he had a special place in his heart for Hawaiÿi's native sons and daughters, and he understood the challenges we face in our quest for justice and advancement in our homeland. Our Lahui could not have found a better friend and advocate than Senator Inouye.

Today, a message of sympathy from Trustees and the CEO, on behalf of Kamehameha Schools, was sent to our beloved Senator's 'ohana, offering our prayers and hopes that they will be filled with memories of joy that he brought to so many lives in Hawai'i and around the world. Senator Inouye lived to serve and we strive to honor him by following in his footsteps.
