Online Policy Comments page update

April 6, 2001

Contributed by CEO Message

Last August, KS initiated a Staff Policy Comments Page to provide a forum for staff to have input into the policy development process -- i.e. to make comments, ask questions and offer solutions. The goal was to ultimately use this feedback in improving KS policies. Comments and questions were referred to the Chief Executive responsible for the topic in question, and responses, along with the question/comment, were posted to the site. The initial procedure included the option that comments could be submitted anonymously. Approximately 120 staff comments/questions were received and processed at the initial site. Experience with some rather negative anonymous comments (to include some personal attacks) as well as KS' increased emphasis on accountability has prompted a change to our policy of accepting anonymous staff comments. Henceforth, anonymous staff comments will no longer be accepted. Additionally, in order to keep the site fresh, all comments from the public site will be cleared on a quarterly basis. All of the comments from the initial phase through 3/31/01 have been removed. However, even though comments are removed from the public page they will be retained in a working database maintained by the Policies Office for use and review during each policy's annual review/validation by the responsible Chief. Please consider sending in your policy comments and questions. If a policy is unclear or doesn't address a particular issue, you would be helping everyone if you brought it to the attention of the chief executives. There have been many meaningful discussions and some policy revisions triggered by the comments previously received. Please take this opportunity to provide positive input and feedback and to be part of the on-going effort to improve KS' policies. Mahalo.
