Neighbor Island Campuses Reviewing Phase V

April 14, 2004

Contributed by CEO Message

Prior to design and construction of the facilities, the trustees and I have challenged KS leaders to evaluate the proposed facilities and their uses and to develop the most innovative, cost-effective implementation. The evaluation is part of our ongoing effort to review major plans, budgets and resource allocations to assure that the legacy of Pauahi can be maximized, thereby allowing us to extend our educational reach to more Hawaiians in our communities. One of the ideas our leaders are considering is the integration of spirituality and performing arts into one multipurpose facility, a gathering place where our talents, our heritage and our hearts come together. Planning for separate facilities began last year with members of our faculty, staff, campus advisory councils, and key members of the community. On behalf of Kamehameha Schools, I'd like to extend a heartfelt mahalo to those who shared ideas and mana'o during the process. Over the next few weeks, we will be asking for input from our Kamehameha 'ohana and the community on the integrated facility concept via a charrette process, an intensive planning session where participants collaborate on a vision for development. I am confident that this collaboration will yield visions that we can all be proud of - visions that will reflect our continued commitment to excellence in education, both on our campuses and in our communities. Mahalo for your support and kokua.
