Native Hawaiian Education Council hosts a series of meetings in November

October 29, 2013

Contributed by Shaun Chillingworth

Interested in Native Hawaiian education? Want to help more Native Hawaiian students succeed in school and in life?

The federal government is contributing some $34 million annually through the Native Hawaiian Education Act. The Native Hawaiian Education Council (NHEC) provides assessment and coordination to this effort. The NHEC is sponsoring a series of meetings to discuss each community's needs. Copies of the 2011 Needs Assessment report will be available for viewing at the meetings and are available for download from the NHEC website. Results from the meetings will be used to update the report and to make recommendations directly to the U.S. Department of Education.

Your participation can directly impact federal education grant-making decisions that may affect your 'ohana. This is your opportunity to add your voice to this important conversation.

Meetings will be held on:

  • Saturday, November 2 from 12:30to 3:30 p.m. at Lana'i High & Elementary School
