KS Maui Presents Ho’oluana, A Native Hawaiian Film Showcase

October 20, 2008

Contributed by Thomas Yoshida

The event features "Through Nāmaka's Eyes," a one-hour documentary chronicling the life of Pat Nāmaka Bacon, daughter of renowned Hawaiian scholar, educator, author and composer Mary Kawena Pukui. Inspired by her mother, Bacon grew to become an accomplished Hawaiian cultural resource in her own right, dedicating most of her life to preserving oli, hula, and the traditional Hawaiian ways of our kūpuna.

Free and open to the public. The audience is treated to dinner and a performance by Kamehameha Schools Maui High School Hawaiian Ensemble. For more information, call (808) 572-3237.
