March 18, 2003

Contributed by Kekoa Paulsen

The general public is invited to watch the Song Contest live on KHON FOX2, beginning with the pre-show documentary on Aloha Aina at 6:30 p.m. The event will also be simulcast live on Hawaiian 105 KINE at 7:30 p.m. and streamed on the internet at www.ksbe.edu. "The contest is a longstanding tradition for the school, and is recognized and appreciated by the entire community," said Kapalama Campus President and Headmaster Dr. Michael Chun. This year's theme is Na Mele Pana: Songs of Beloved Places. The TV broadcasts are sponsored in part by Alexander and Baldwin, First Hawaiian Bank, and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Kamehameha Schools is a statewide educational system founded and endowed by the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, comprising three campuses on three islands and more than 30 preschool sites throughout the state of Hawaii. Nearly 4,900 preschool through grade 12 students of Hawaiian ancestry are currently enrolled. Through a range of outreach programs and financial aid opportunities, Kamehameha extends its educational reach and resources to meet the needs of thousands of other Hawaiian learners not served within its classrooms.
