Kapalama Student Paikai Earns Gold Medal

His score of 543 was nine points better than Punahou's Erik Oberacker. Paikai's teammate Mark Kauanui finished in eighth place with a score of 516.

In the 12-year state tournament history of this event, no boy has ever won the individual title in two consecutive years. On the girls side, Sacred Hearts' Clarissa Akana won consecutive gold medals in 2008-09.
