"Ka Huaka'i" examines the education and well-being of Native Hawaiians from a multidisciplinary perspective and builds on previous assessments published in 1983 and 1993. The publication discusses recent trends and synthesizes an extensive body of research to highlight the interrelated factors that influence educational outcomes.

Dr. Shawn Kana'iaupuni, Kamehameha Schools director of research and evaluation, said the awards validate the tremendous commitment to excellence by staff to the design, content and accuracy of this publication.

"Taking this enormous and important data and presenting it in a clear and concise way is always a challenge," Kana'iaupuni said. "We could not have achieved this without a lot of help both from our staff and others outside of our organization who provided tremendous insight and guidance with 'Ka Huaka'i.'"

"Our research shows that while Native Hawaiians learners still face persistent academic challenges, there has been and continues to reflect improvement in the statistical data relating to the well-being of Native Hawaiians," she said. "Ka Huaka'i" can be accessed on the Internet at http://hawaiidigitallibrary.org/hdl_en.php.

STC is an individual membership organization with 14,000 members including technical writers and editors, content developers, documentation specialists, technical illustrators, and instructional designers.
