July 30, 2013

Contributed by Shaun Chillingworth

Gear Up Holomua, Wai'anae Intermediate and Wai'anae High Schools launched the 2013 Summer College and Math Academy in collaboration with Kamehameha Schools' Ka Pua Initiative, the Hawai'i State Department of Education, University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and INPEACE. The academy bridges intermediate to high school math skills, while also preparing students entering 8th and 9th grades for their college journeys.

"The college field trips were the best," shared Wai'anae Intermediate College and Math Academy student Tiare Toetu'u- Aipa who was accompanied by her 'ohana.

Academy students got to learn about their college options while creating plans for their futures. This summer the students visited UH Mānoa, Honolulu Community College, Hawaii Pacific University and Windward Community College to learn about their programs and campuses.
