Huge block party planned for Saturday, Oct. 22, in Kaka’ako

September 19, 2011

Contributed by KS Webmaster

The streetfest will take place in Kaka‘ako along Coral, Keawe and Auahi streets, which are being closed for the event. In addition, interior courtyard and parking areas on that block will be closed to vehicular traffic.

The block is owned by Kamehameha Schools and is part of the Schools’ 29-acre master-planned redevelopment project. The Nonstop Kaka‘ako event celebrates two construction milestones — the completion of the first phase of renovations at 660 Ala Moana Boulevard and the start of construction to convert 680 Ala Moana Boulevard from office building to residential rental loft apartments.

Nonstop Kaka‘ako will feature live music and entertainment on multiple stages, art, a beer garden with poke bar, shopping tent, beauty lounge and martini bar and more. The UH Warrior Football homecoming game will also be shown on a large screen at the event.

Foodies will enjoy the lineup of food vendors represented at the event. Many of them are nominees in Nonstop Honolulu’s first annual Best of Nonstop contest. Nonstop Honolulu’s editors and writers have selected five nominees in 23 selected categories ranging from poke to pizza.

Free event parking will be available at 555 South St. There also will be a shopping valet to allow attendees to park their purchases while they take part in the festivities.

Voting for the Best of Nonstop contest begins Oct. 3. Readers have two weeks to vote online at nonstophonolulu.com to pick their favorites. Winners will be announced at the Nonstop Kaka‘ako event on Saturday, Oct. 22.
