February 5, 2013

Contributed by ksinfo

Hale Ho'oku Ka'a, the parking structure next to Kekuhaupi'o Gymnasium, had its official blessing and opening ceremony Monday with Po'o Kula Earl Kim and Facilities Manager Robert Ramsey untying the maile. Kahu Kordell Kekoa presided over the blessing.

The structure has seven total levels in a bi-level design with 477 stalls in the structure and another 32 along the side, adding more than 500 parking spaces for the campus. There are two vehicle entry points for the structure, one on Bishop Drive that goes to the fifth level and another on the roadway to the gymnasium, which goes to the second level. There are stairwells on both ends, with an elevator on the makai end that goes up to a new walkway that gives direct access from Hale Ho'oku Ka'a to Kūnuiākea Stadium, over Bishop Drive.

Hale Ho'oku Ka'a is located on the old Malalo field site. The site served as a staging area during the construction of the Koai'a, middle school and Ka'iwakīloumoku constructions.
