Former Chief Operating Officer

June 15, 2001

Contributed by CEO Message

Aipa has been with Kamehameha Schools for over seventeen years and his contributions to the institution will have a positive lasting impact at Kamehameha in years to come. As COO, Aipa worked with the Interim Trustees on the transition to the new CEO governance structure and on coordinating the roll out of the institution-wide planning process that led to the adoption of a comprehensive Strategic Plan at Kamehameha Schools. As former General Counsel, Aipa was instrumental in many major projects, including the negotiation of the Goldman Sachs investment and coordinating KS' defense of its Hawaiian preference admissions policy before the IRS. Aipa has expressed a deep appreciation to Kamehameha Schools for giving him the privilege over so many years to serve Hawaiian children in their educational endeavors. Says Aipa, "While times have been tough and demanding, focusing on the mission and legacy of Princess Pauahi, working with an exceedingly dedicated support staff, and having a loving and understanding family, gave me the strength and spirit to endure and do some exciting things at Kamehameha." Aipa has conveyed that although he will be returning to the private practice of law, and pursuing other business goals, he will also continue to work for the betterment of the Hawaiian community in legal, education, and social areas. We all wish him well as he pursues these new endeavors. I mua Kamehameha, Nathan!
