Curtains rise April 4-19 for Kamehameha Schools production of "Guys and Dolls"

Based on Damon Runyon's short story, "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown," Guys and Dolls opened at the 46th Street Theatre on Nov. 24, 1950, and enjoyed a run of 1,200 performances. A film version released in 1955 featured Marlon Brando, Vivian Blaine , Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons in the leading roles. Kamehameha Schools' student orchestra will be led by conductor Aristotle Santa Cruz. Musical direction is by Kalai Stern; choreography by Erin Morita; costumes by Shannon Inouye and Mei Nakano. The play is directed by Kamehameha drama teacher Patrick Fujioka. For more information call 842-8496. Kamehameha Schools is a statewide educational system founded and endowed by the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, comprising three campuses on three islands and more than 30 preschool sites throughout the state of Hawai'i. Nearly 4,900 preschool through grade 12 students of Hawaiian ancestry are currently enrolled. Through a range of outreach programs and financial aid opportunities, Kamehameha extends its educational reach and resources to meet the needs of thousands of other Hawaiian learners not served within its classrooms.
