Change Admissions Policy

August 20, 2005

Contributed by Anonymous

Because this is a private trust, to individually name the beneficiaries would not be discrimination. This might exclude some Hawaiians who have not registered, or are in other parts of the world and do not know that they need to register. But it may be better to exclude a handful of Hawaiians than the whole lot. We all know that if the admissions is opened to all the Children of Hawaii, our Hawaiian children in greatest need of an education will be the first ones to be left behind. Our children living in sub-standard conditions would not be able to afford a private education - and we all are aware of the failure of our public schools here. Many families will loose hope of breaking the viscous cycle of poverty. Kamehameha Schools has been their hope for a better life for their children and grandchildren - and has succeeded in raising the intellect and living standards of many Hawaiian families for generations and for perpetuating our Hawaiian heritage.

Please forward this message to Dee Jay and the attorneys representing Kamehameha Schools. It is an angle worth exploring.

Mahalo nui loa,
Ululani (Davis) Stephenson
