CEO Message: Three Trustee Finalists Named

November 6, 2006

Contributed by CEO Message

The seven-member committee recommended the names of attorney Allen Hoe, First Hawaiian Bank Executive Vice President Corbett Kalama and former city Budget Director Ivan Lui-Kwan as its top candidates.

The selection process, approved by the Probate Court in 2000, calls for the presiding probate judge to pick a new trustee from that list after a 30-day public comment period. It is expected that the person selected would serve the remainder of Trustee Lau's current term, which expires June 30, 2008, and then could qualify for two additional five-year terms.

The court's committee consists of the following members: Francis Keala, Robbie Alm, Ben Matsubara, Michael Rawlins, Melody MacKenzie, Claire Asam, and George "Keoki" Freeland.

Trustee Lau has served on Kamehameha's board since 1999 with full heart and mind. With much aloha, she announced in February that she would step down as a trustee when she was named HEI's CEO. Thankfully, she agreed to remain on our board until her successor was named.

The deadline for public input is December 4, 2007. Comments may be submitted to:
