He comes to Kamehameha after serving three years in the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Hawai‘i-Mānoa. Prior to his time at UH, Benham was at Michigan State University, where he spent 10 years designing and delivering coaching and parent education programs while in the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports. While there, he also coordinated teacher education outreach programs and led teachers' professional development efforts for the Michigan Fitness Foundation.

"We are excited to have Bob join our staff as he will bring a wealth of knowledge relative to youth sports to all our programs," Adams said. "In addition, he will be an invaluable asset to our coaches' education program."

Benham returns to his alma mater, where he previously taught in the physical education and boarding departments from 1976-91. During that time, Benham also coached both boys and girls basketball. He also coached basketball at Punahou School and Okemos High School in Michigan.

The 1973 graduate of Kamehameha will begin on Sept. 12, and will oversee riflery, cross country, tennis, water polo, swimming and diving, soccer, baseball, and track and field.

Benham got his undergraduate degree at the University of Hawai‘i-Mānoa, while earning his master's and Ph.D. degrees at Michigan State. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE).
