November 9, 10, and 16 at 7:00 p.m. November 11 and 18 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. The play is approximately 60 minutes long. Patrick Fujioka, Director of Theatre Arts at Kamehameha Schools, directs the play, which uses the backdrop of Commedia Dell'Arte, a style developed in Italy that features broad comedy, stock characters and improvisation. Set design is by University of Hawaii masters degree candidate Kelly Berry. Set in old Venice, Kelly utilizes devices from ancient theater such as three-sided scenery and wagons or moving stages that allow the performances to be played at various locations. Costumes are designed by KP, also a University of Hawaii student. The story follows young Androcles, a slave in Rome with a heart of gold. He tries so hard to help others and make things right, so how does he always end up in trouble? It is a good thing Androcles has a quick wit. But will his smarts help him when he meets the King of the Beasts? Come and see how young Androcles does as this comic tale unfolds!
