Adams has been as Associate Athletic Director at KS-Kapālama for the past two years, overseeing air riflery, riflery, softball, boys and girls cross country, tennis, water polo, diving, soccer and track and field, along with the sport booster clubs, while forming the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (Hui Nā Koa o Kamehameha).
"I'm excited for our student athletes at Glennie's selection," Ako said. "The diverse experience and strong skills she will be bringing to her new leadership role will enable us to further strengthen what is already a great athletic program at our school."
The 1978 Kamehameha graduate came back to Kapālama after serving as an Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator and head women's volleyball coach at Chaminade University. In her 15 years as the head coach at Chaminade, she led the team to a Pacific West Conference title and two appearances in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. Adams was also a member of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Regional Advisory Committee and was the NCAA Division II Volleyball Regional Chair.
Prior to her time at Chaminade, she also coached at her alma maters, UH-Hilo and Kamehameha, and University High School.
Adams was a standout athlete at Kamehameha, lettering in track and field, volleyball, softball and basketball. She then went on to UH-Hilo, earning All-America honors in 1979. She was a part of two national championship teams and was inducted to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990. Adams was also inducted into the UH-Hilo Vulcan Hall of Honor in 2004.
Adams replaces Kanani Souza, who announced his retirement, effective July 30.
