Freshmen were required to finish either a 10k run or a 3k swim, with 292 completing the run and 111 completing the swim. Sophomores did a biathlon that included an 800-meter swim and a four-mile run, with 372 finishing.
Weli Alamillo was the top finisher in the 10k with a time of 43:29, followed by Damien Farrant (44:33) and Mason Awong (44:42). Kayla Mizo (52:42, 37th overall) and Kiana Lidstone-Cayabyab (53:00, 39th overall) were the next two female runners. Colin Fellezs had the top time in the 3k swim, finishing at 40:01, narrowly defeating Ryan Stack (40:06). Lance Ontai (46:43) finished third overall. Carly Coleman was the top female swimmer with a time of 51:48, finishing seventh overall. Along with the students there were also nine staff members, seven runners, one swimmer and one in the biathlon, and five parents that completed the events. One of the parents was Kamehameha Schools trustee Janeen-Ann Olds, whose son, Ryan Stack, finished second in the 3k swim. KS-Kapālama started its fitness program in 1978, having freshman complete either a 15k run or 4k swim. It was later reduced to a 10k run and a 3k swim in 1996 due to scheduling issues. In 1989, the biathlon was added for sophomores to maintain the fitness levels reached in ninth grade.
