Heluhelu Baibala
Ōlelo mai ʻo Iēhova iaʻu, ʻī maila,
E kākau ʻoe i ka mea i ʻike ʻia,
A e kākau hoʻi ia ma nā papa pōhaku,
I hiki ka mea heluhelu e hoholo.
“No ka mea, ʻo ka mea i ʻikea no ka manawa maopopo ia;

He manaʻo o ke kahu
Summer is here. I was interviewed for a career day project years ago. The student posed the why question in the interview. Why do you enjoy being a teacher? He was stunned when I responded that I like teaching because I have a summer break like students. I made the remark in jest but working in a profession with summer breaks has several benefits. Summer is an opportunity of rest, as well as a time to enjoy hobbies we neglect during the school year. The rest and recuperation of summer gives teachers the opportunity to cast another vision for the next school year, to create new goals for new students, and to plan new plans for the next adventures ahead.
The prophet Habakkuk explains to God the faults of Israel. They ignore the law, and never uphold justice, and when they attempt to be just then justice comes out perverted. Israel needs help according to Habakkuk. God tells the prophet the Chaldeans (Babylonians) will come to help him. They will seize the people of Israel as a punishment for their disobedience. Habakkuk admits his confusion with God’s plan because the Chaldeans are just as bad as Israel, if not worse. God replies to Habakkuk to write down his vision for the people. What does justice look like to Habakkuk? How will the righteousness of God shine? Write down your vision for the future and wait for it happen because God will be faithful to this vision.
This summer spend time in rest, and when your rest is done then spend time casting your vision just as Habakkuk did. What is your vision for next year? What are your goals for your students? What is your plan? Inscribe it in your tablets, cover it with prayer, and trust God will see you through. May Ke Akua serve as the caretaker of our visions. ʻAmene.
