One of the special things accomplished this year was the creation of our Kauhale Alumni Band. Bringing back and uniting alumni, along with ʻohana and community members for a special performance in February. Reconnecting our ʻohana with their love of music.

Our Kauhale Band is nearing a special one year anniversary. The Kauhale Band brings back and unites alumni (from all three KS campuses), along with ʻohana and community members for special performances throughout the year. The work to bring this together was recently highlighted in the I Mua Newsroom

"We’re looking forward to another meaningful season of music, connection, and community," shared Mr. Willie Harris, high school band kumu. "This special ensemble brings together alumni from all Kamehameha Schools campuses, as well as members of our broader community."

Here is their set from that first band festival in February. They did amazing!

And Mr. Harris, Mr. Kinoshita, and Mr. Kawakami have already done it again for the 2025-2026 school year! There was a performance at the Fall Pops Concert last year, and there will be a special Kauhale Band Festival with our Midde and High School Bands again at this one year anniversary mark in February. Rehearsals will start January 28 and continue weekly until the performance. To help us plan, please take a moment to sign up using this form. We will have an instrument for you if you don't have one yourself.

Rehearsal Schedule (Wednesdays, 6:30–8:00 PM)

  • January 28
  • February 4, 11, 18, 25

Concert Date

  • Thursday, February 26 @ 6:00 PM – MS/HS Kauhale Band Concert

"It was such an awesome opportunity to see so many of you last year and we hope to see more of year this time around," said Mr. Harris.

Some key details:

  • All adult participants are required to complete the Kamehameha Schools Volunteer Application, which includes a background check. This is necessary because current KS students will be participating in some rehearsals and performances.
  • Volunteer clearance must be completed prior to attending your first rehearsal or performance. You can find the application and instructions here: KS Hawaiʻi Volunteer Registration
  • If you need an instrument, we’re happy to provide one for you—just let us know in the sign-up form.

Come out and join the band!
