Severe weather alert: Kona storm update #3

March 12, 2026

Aloha mai kākou,

With the safety and well-being of our haumāna, ʻohana and staff at the top of our mind, Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha campuses, preschool sites and offices on Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi and Maui will be closed tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2026. This decision aligns with state and county closures and follows the guidance of government and emergency officials as the Kona storm continues to impact these islands.

At this time, Hawaiʻi Island campus, preschools and offices will remain open tomorrow. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and remain in communication with emergency and government officials. If conditions change, decisions regarding Hawaiʻi Island sites will be communicated directly and immediately to those communities.

Individual campuses and sites will also be sharing directly with their stakeholders updates regarding any changes to activities, events or programs scheduled during this time. Staff will also hear from their respective leader with further guidance regarding work situations for tomorrow.

The National Weather Service continues to forecast the potential for flash flooding, damaging winds and strong thunderstorms as the system moves across the islands.

Mahalo for your understanding and patience as we navigate this situation together. We encourage everyone to stay informed through trusted weather updates, take care in preparing and caring for your ʻohana, and look out for one another and your communities as this storm moves through the pae ʻāina.

E mālama pono.
