No laila hoʻi, mai nīnau aku ʻoukou me ka manaʻo nui, He aha kā kākou mea e ʻai ai? He aha hoʻi kā kākou mea e inu ai? He aha hoʻi ko kākou mea e ʻaʻahu ai? No ka mea, ke hoʻopapau nei nā kānaka ʻē ma kēia mau mea a pau. Ua ʻike nō hoʻi ko ʻoukou Makua o ka lani, he pono ke loaʻa iā ʻoukou ia mau mea a pau. Akā, e ʻimi ʻē ʻoukou ma mua i ke aupuni o ke Akua a me kāna pono, a e pau ua mau mea lā i ka hāʻawi ʻia mai iā ʻoukou. No laila, mai manaʻo nui aku ʻoukou i ka mea o ka lā ʻapōpō: no ka mea, na ka lā ʻapōpō e manaʻo iho i nā mea nona iho. ʻO ka ʻino o kekahi lā ua nui ia nona iho. – Mataio 6:31-34

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” – Matthew 6:31-34

He manaʻo o na haumāna
Have you ever hung out with someone and decided to get something to eat, but you can never figure out what to get? This is something my best friend and I struggle with daily. We constantly argue about who is choosing a place to get food. I don’t know if it’s because we are both indecisive or we simply do not care where we go. It got so bad that we had to download an app that chooses one of us. We started to worry so much about where we were going to eat, when we really did not have to concern ourselves with these thoughts.

Matthew 6:31-34 portrays the idea that many people tend to stress about the little things in life such as what to eat, drink, and wear. These things consume the mind of so many people on a day-to-day basis. This scripture is reminding us that all these silly things that we constantly worry about really should not cross our mind. This is because God knows what our needs are, and he will be the one to fulfill them for us. He is the one that does the worrying, so we don’t have to. If we just put our faith in him, he will provide answers to all our uncertainties.

I relate to this scripture to a great extent. Graduation is coming up so fast and after that I will have to step out into the “real world.” Especially in these last few months I have been worrying so much about what I will do after high school. These thoughts are always on my mind to the point where that is the only thing I think about. Although there is always going to be that part of me that worries, I know that God will take care of me and lead me to where I belong. As you trust in Him, remember that God will take care of all troubles of today as well as the problems of tomorrow.
