Our partners at the University of Hawai‘i launched a new "Be a Hero, Be a Teacher" campaign aimed at addressing Hawai‘iʻs teacher shortage. The video for the campaign includes a slam poetry performance by our very own KS Hawai‘i dean of studies Dr. Clint Anderson. Itʻs a powerful reminder of the impact our kumu have in all of our lives. Bravo, Dr. Anderson! See the full announcement for the campaign at http://www.hawaii.edu/news/2017/09/18/be-a-hero-be-a-teacher/.

The University of Hawaiʻi launched a new “Be a Hero. Be a Teacher.” campaign aimed at addressing Hawaiʻiʻs teacher shortage.

The voice of the campaign was provided by Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Kula Kiʻekiʻe (High School) Dean of Studies Dr. Clint Anderson, through a slam poetry performance of a poem he wrote. Anderson himself is an alumnus of the UH Hilo School of Education.

Through “Be a Hero. Be a Teacher.”, UH encourages high school and college students, as well as working professionals, to consider the importance and benefits of the teaching profession. See more at www.beaherobeateacher.com.

This work aligns critically with KS SP2020 goal two, recognizing the critical role that a highly qualified and dedicated workforce is towards an improved educational system. KS has been a tireless supporter and advocate of credentialing our own kumu and teachers across the state through the National Board Certified Teacher program.

UH produced a longer 2 minute and 29 second video that features a poem written and performed by Dr. Clint Anderson.

The Be a Hero. Be a Teacher. campaign aims to address Hawaiʻi's teacher shortage by inspiring more homegrown kumu.
