Kā‘eo Duarte is vice president of the Kamehameha Schools ‘Āina Pauahi. He and his team are charged with balancing educational, cultural, environmental, community and economic returns for KS through the stewardship and management of 360,000 acres of ‘āina Pauahi on five islands.

The ‘Āina Pauahi Group is comprised of four divisions: Integrated Asset Management, Sustainable Industry Development, Natural and Cultural Ecosystems, and ‘Āina Ulu.

Duarte has held several leadership positions since joining KS in 2004. Prior to being named VP, he served as West Hawai‘i Regional Director — where he oversaw KS initiatives to unify and elevate people, programs and land assets for greater community impact. He also served as water resources manager and regional asset manager.

Prior to joining KS, Duarte was a faculty member at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa where he specialized in indigenous resource management and hydrological sciences.

In addition to fulfilling his leadership role at KS, he currently serves as board chair for Hawai‘i Green Growth, and chair of the Hawai‘i Fresh Water Council.

Duarte graduated from Saint Louis School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Princeton University and a doctorate degree in environmental engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
