WALTER THOEMMES III, Managing Director, KS Commercial Real Estate Division

Walter Thoemmes III is managing director of the Kamehameha Schools Commercial Real Estate Division, responsible for overseeing KS’ commercial real estate portfolio which consists of assets located on O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island.

His kuleana includes advancing plans for KS land holdings in Mō‘ili‘ili, Kapālama, Waipahū, Waiawa, Kāhala, Keauhou, Ka‘ōnohi and He‘eia. He and his team help create portfolio value and income to support KS’ educational mission, connect student learning to business and work opportunities, and create communities through thoughtful planning and strategic partnerships.

Thoemmes has previously held the KS positions of chief of staff to the CEO, and director of Facilities Development and Support. He has been involved in major projects including the development of Our Kaka‘ako, the Kā Pua Initiative in Wai‘anae, and the development of KS’ Maui and Hawai‘i campuses.

In addition to fulfilling his leadership role at KS, he currently serves on the boards of: InPeace, the Land Use Research Foundation of Hawai‘i, Move O‘ahu Forward, and the Hawai‘i Energy Strategic Advisory Board.

A 1984 graduate of KS, Thoemmes went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and worked as a licensed architect prior to joining KS.

Kamehameha Schools’ policy is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.
