Saturday, November 7, 2026
9:00 am - 11:00 am
Kalanihoʻokahā Community Learning Center (map)

This workshop builds upon the successful events conducted by Mālama Learning Center with Kamehameha Schools in November 2024 and 2025 in recognition of Arbor Day. Celebrating the anticipated re-launch of E Ala: Wai‘anae’s first waʻa kaulua (double-hulled voyaging canoe), this year’s event will focus on the planting, uses, and maintenance of native and canoe plants, emphasizing Polynesian voyaging.

Attendees can expect:

  • Demonstrations of proper tree planting techniques onsite.
  • Native and canoe plants available for adoption, with one plant per family.
  • Hands-on booths hosted by community organizations showcasing voyaging activities such as:
  • Weaving
  • Lā‘au lapa‘au (traditional Hawaiian herbal medicine)
  • Cordage making
  • Lei making
  • Traditional and modern voyaging foods

Participating organizations may include E Ala Voyaging Academy, Division of Urban Forestry, ʻElepaio Social Services, Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle Hawaiʻi Response, Ka‘ala Farm, Ho‘a ‘Āina O Mākaha, and Clever Keiki Hawaiʻi.
