Aloha Lā Kūʻokoʻa Celebration – Honoring Hawaiʻi’s Independence
A celebration of Lā Kūʻokoʻa, Hawaiʻi’s Independence Day, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maui Mall Village. The event is hosted by KS Kaiāulu.
This Aloha Lā Kūʻokoʻa event features mele and hula on the mall stage, as well as local vendors, Lā Kūʻokoʻa decals, cultural demonstations and resources by our local organizations. Tell your friends and ʻohana to come and join in the celebration. Proudly wave your Hae Hawaiʻi!
Although officially observed on Nov. 28, Lā Kūʻokoʻa is celebrated throughout the month. First observed in 1843, this holiday honors Hawaiʻi’s sovereignty and independence, achieved through the diplomatic efforts of Timoteo Haʻalilio and William Richards, whose mission secured recognition of Hawaiian independence by the United States, Britain, and France.
