Recruitment Fraud Awareness and Applicant Protection

At Kamehameha Schools (KS), we are committed to creating a safe and transparent hiring experience for every candidate.

Unfortunately, recruitment fraud is becoming increasingly common. Scammers may create fake job postings, impersonate recruiters, or falsely claim to represent legitimate organizations in an attempt to collect personal information or money from job seekers.

This page explains how KS recruits candidates, how to verify that a job opportunity is legitimate, and what to do if you suspect fraudulent activity.

What Is Recruitment Fraud?

Recruitment fraud occurs when individuals falsely represent themselves as recruiters, hiring managers, or employees of an organization to deceive job seekers.

These fraudulent schemes often involve:

  • Fake job postings on unauthorized websites
  • Emails or messages from individuals pretending to be recruiters
  • Requests for personal or financial information
  • Requests for payment related to employment opportunities
  • False promises of employment without a formal hiring process

The goal of these scams is often to obtain sensitive personal information, financial information, or money from applicants.

How Kamehameha Schools Recruits Candidates

To help protect job seekers, it is important to understand how our hiring process works.

Official Job Opportunities

The KS Careers website is the official source for all Kamehameha Schools employment opportunities: www.ksbe.edu/careers.

Application and Hiring Process

To be considered for employment, candidates must apply through KS Careers Portal. All official Kamehameha Schools hiring communications will come from @ksbe.edu or @myworkday.com email addresses. For information about our hiring process, interviews, and employment offers, please visit our resources page under “Our hiring process”.

Kamehameha Schools will never ask for payment, banking information, gift cards, or participation in a hiring process conducted exclusively through text or chat applications. If you receive a request that appears inconsistent with these practices, we encourage you to verify the communication before taking any action.

How to Verify a KS Job Posting

Before applying for any position claiming to be with Kamehameha Schools, we encourage candidates to verify the legitimacy of the opportunity by visiting our official Careers page at www.ksbe.edu/careers.

A legitimate Kamehameha Schools job posting should:

  • Appear on the Kamehameha Schools Careers website (www.ksbe.edu/careers)
  • Have a URL address starting with: https://ksbe.wd1.myworkdayjob.com
  • Have an “Apply” button in the posting that allows you to apply through Workday

Warning Signs of Recruitment Fraud

Be cautious if you encounter any of the following:

  • You receive an unsolicited job offer without applying or interviewing.
  • A recruiter asks you to pay fees for equipment, training, certifications, background checks, or other hiring-related expenses.
  • You are asked to provide banking information, credit card information, passwords, or other sensitive financial information early in the hiring process.
  • Communications contain significant spelling, grammar, or formatting errors.
  • The hiring process is conducted entirely through text messages or chat applications.
  • You are asked to communicate outside of normal recruiting channels.
  • The compensation or job opportunity appears unusually generous or unrealistic.
  • You are pressured to act immediately or provide information urgently.

These examples are intended to help applicants identify potentially fraudulent activity and are not an exhaustive list of recruitment scams identified across employer fraud awareness resources.

What To Do If You Suspect Fraud

If you believe you have received a fraudulent communication or encountered a suspicious job posting:

  1. Stop communication
  2. Save relevant information (screenshots, emails, texts)
  3. Contact KS Talent Acquisition at careers@ksbe.edu and report to appropriate authorities (The Federal Trade Commission, local law enforcement, etc.)

When contacting us, please include as much information as possible, such as:
    • Position title
    • Recruiter name (if available)
    • Website or job board where the position was posted
    • Copies or screenshots of related communications

Mahalo for your interest in career opportunities at Kamehameha Schools. We are committed to ensuring that every interaction throughout our recruitment process reflects the values that guide our organization, including the mālama that is at the heart of how we engage with and support our people and communities.

Disclaimer: Kamehameha Schools shall not be responsible for any fraudulent communications, websites, 3rd party entities or individuals that falsely claim to represent KS. Applicants should independently verify employment opportunities through official KS channels.
