Kamehameha Schools college scholarship applications for the 2015-2016 school year are now available through KS’ Financial Aid and Scholarship Services Division. Those who apply early have a better chance of being eligible. The following scholarships are currently being offered:
Nā Hoʿokama A Pauahi Scholarship
Application deadline: April 20, 2015
Award amounts up to $8,000
This need-based scholarship is available to students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. Each applicant must:
- Be a Hawaiʻi resident at the time of the application submission
- Be a full-time student (non-traditional students enrolled half-time may be considered)
- Be a classified, degree-seeking student at an accredited post-high educational institution in the U.S.
- Meet KS’ maximum funding guidelines
- Demonstrate financial need as determined through analysis of a completed application
- Complete a College Scholarship Service (CSS)/PROFILE online application at www.collegeboard.com/profile.
TIP: Apply early! According to FASS, the biggest reason students are not eligible for this scholarship is that they don’t complete the application process in time. It can take several weeks to gather the required documents which include federal tax returns and birth certificates.
ʻImi Naʻauao Scholarship
Application deadline: March 9, 2015
Award amounts up to $12,000
This merit-based scholarship is available to graduate students only. Applicants must:
- Be a Hawaiʻi resident at the time of application submission
- Be a full-time student (non-traditional students enrolled half-time may be considered)
- Be a classified, degree-seeking student at an accredited post-high educational institution in the U.S.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Have a conferred/anticipated bachelor’s degree by spring 2015
- Meet maximum funding guidelines
TIP: Remember recommendation letters. The most common reason applicants are not eligible for this scholarship is that they do not secure the three letters of recommendation required by the application process.
The KS Financial Aid and Scholarship Services Division provides financial assistance to students from preschool to post-high. During the 2014-15 school year, KS’ Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi program awarded $12.8 million in scholarships to 2,215 students and the ʻImi Naʻauao program awarded $1.3 million to 114 students. Tips for a successful scholarship application
APPLY EARLY
All scholarship applications and required documents must be postmarked or hand-delivered to KS on or before the deadline dates. Applicants who apply close to the deadline date will not receive notifications of missing or incomplete documents.
ANCESTRY VERIFICATION
KS’ policy on admissions is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law. To be considered under that policy, each applicant’s Hawaiian ancestry must be verified by Kamehameha’s Ho‘oulu Hawaiian Data Center. Call (808) 523-6228 to request an ancestry verification form.
