  • Appointed Class Representatives, ASKS Historian, and ASKS Commissioners

Appointed position will be selected by Class Officers/Advisors and/or the Student Activities Coordinator and ASKS Executive Board.

How to Apply?

First, everyone interested in running for office should read the ASKS Hawaiʻi Constitution

Candidates need to submit an online application in which they will select which role they are running for.

There is a candidate questionnaire, which will be used to help populate a voters guide. Each candidate will answer these questions:

  • Your Why: Share your reason for why you would like to be considered for class office and what your plans are for the position.
  • Past Experiences: Have you done anything recently or in your past that qualifies you well for this position?
  • Who you are: What is something that you hope our student body knows about you as a kanaka?
  • Your idea/initiatives: What is something that you would like to accomplish in this role? Or what is a cause related to our school that you are passionate about?

Each candidate is required to sign an acknowledgement, recommendation and approval form. This also includes getting a recommendation from a high school administrator, teacher, or counselor. You also need to get approval and support acknowledgement from a parent. The form can be uploaded along with the application.

Campaigning

During the application process you will have an opportunity to include campaign materials for approval and upload.

Running an effective campaign includes producing materials that tell your story and why your peers should elect you as a leader. In addition to the responses you will provide that will be included on a Candidate website, applicants can submit other pieces for use in their campaign including:

  • A photo of yourself you would like included on the ballot
  • A 1-minute video statement
  • A campaign flyer to be posted on campus

There are guidelines to follow that are highlighted on our Student Elections webpage

There will also be grade level Candidate Forums which will take place this month. The previously scheduled Elections Panels have been rescheduled to:

  • Grade 10 - April 17
  • Grade 9 - April 21
  • Grade 11 - April 23

Candidates for that grade level Class Officer and ASKS candidates will have an opportunity to speak at the event.

Should you have any questions, you can raise them in person at the Student Life Center or send an email to askshawaii@ksbe.edu.
