Ho‘omoe wai kāhi ke kāo‘o.
Let all travel together like water flowing in one direction.

E nā hoa makamaka mai kahi pae a kahi pae o kēia ʻāina aloha, welina ke aloha,

We invite you to experience ʻŌiwi Edge summer learning at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi in this ʻāina aloha of Keaʻau, Puna!

Imbued with the mana of this special place, of Ke Aliʻi Pauahi’s heritage, of the many generations of heroes and innovators who shaped our communities, and of our own kupuna, ʻŌiwi Edge empowers us with ancestral knowledge and mindsets to meet a rapidly changing and incredibly challenging world with strength, agility, and courage.

This past year has been like no other, shaping us to pause, pivot and meet the challenge of COVID-19 with safety, purpose and continued resiliency. Our summer program at Kamehameha Hawaiʻi will also be adapted to meet those challenges, moving from Hālau Kupukupu to a new Remote and Summer learning kula.

This year, we will offer Kauwela 2021 as a transitional summer program to continue to meet the needs of our learners in a manner that is responsive to the circumstances of this pandemic and will include the following:

  • Participation will be open to current KS students only
  • Courses will be offered daily, on-campus, as conditions allow, except for high school dual credit courses offered online
  • Transitional courses for new invitees in grades K, 4, 6 & 9 will be run by each kula

Grounded by its past, Kauwela 2021 promises to continue to inspire a passion for learning, excellence, and generational and global responsibility. Our team of dynamic educators have designed incredible experiences that uncover the magic and hidden possibilities of summer learning for KS Hawai‘i students in grades 1-12. During this focused, transitional summer, these experiences will cautiously compliment our reality, ground us with kuleana, and prepare us to adapt quickly with existing conditions for the now and into the future.

Our guiding theme this year, Ho‘omoe wai kāhi ke kāo‘o, affirms our unified kula commitment of support towards the well being and safety of our kauhale. Like water flowing in one direction, we remain focused on keeping our keiki in the center with purposeful opportunities to restore and grow the ‘ike of our haumāna, our kauhale, our kaiaulu.

We welcome your keiki and ʻōpio to join us this summer for a journey of discovery as they learn and grow in innovative and exciting courses at all levels. Please register early for the course(s) of your choice as spaces tend to fill quickly. If you have any questions or manaʻo regarding our summer program, please call (808) 982-0008 or email kauwela@ksbe.edu.
