All students engage in training at the start of the school year to better recognize unsafe behaviors and understand their expectations as students of Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi.

Student trainings help haumāna recognize and report unsafe behaviors

Sept. 30, 2025

At Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all haumāna. As part of building a strong culture of accountability and transparency, we want to ensure that students know the expectations that are held of them as students as well as the reporting tools available to them for reporting any behaviors or activities that may compromise their health, safety, and well-being.

In quarter one, we conduct training sessions to ensure students feel confident to recognize and speak up when situations may occur. Students are reminded throughout the year about the importance of pono behavior at all times.

To help our kauhale build a shared vocabulary and understanding, we share the content of that training that is provided to our haumāna around the topic of harassment, intimidation and bullying.

There is no place for harassment, intimidation, or bullying (HIB) at Kamehameha Schools. The hope is in learning how to recognize behaviors, establishing a firm foundation of accountability, and committing to an approach grounded in aloha, together we can break the cycle of bullying.

Mahalo to our haumāna for taking this training seriously and embracing the kindness we need in this world to make it a better place.

Learn more about our See Something, Say Something campaign and training as well, which helps students report any concerns or negative behaviors they are experiencing.

Kamehameha Hawaiʻi is dedicated to creating a culture of safety where every individual feels protected and valued. Faculty and staff remain committed to this sacred kuleana, but a true culture of safety is built by all of us—haumāna, ʻohana, and hoa kumu—working together. By equipping students with skills, tools, and confidence, and by encouraging pono choices at every turn, we strengthen the foundation of trust and care that defines our kauhale. Mahalo for your continued partnership in this important work.
