And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:1-14

It’s been a great time learning about Jesus and the impact His birth has as we come to the end of another Advent season. It is only fitting to celebrate Jesus as the Light of the World. Light is so powerful it reveals what’s hidden in darkness. Light brings new perspectives to complex situations and keeps us from getting lost or confused.
Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” John 8:12. Jesus, Himself, is the light from Ke Akua born into the world. Jesus’ light can reveal hidden things, lead us out of darkness, and bring clarity through life’s conflicts and challenges.
Be mindful of Jesus’ light that is in all who believe and follow Him. That “Light” can bring truth, wisdom, and joy into our troubled world today. Let the “Light of the World” shine through us brighter than ever before, to uplift our families, our communities and our lāhui.
He manaʻo o ka haumana

As a senior I’m constantly questioned by family and friends about my path after high school. I didn’t have answers to the questions flying at me. However, I realized that I was causing my path to seem unclear, and that doubt led me adrift from God. It kept me from walking in His light and having confidence in my future. Rebuilding my faith in Him and in myself made a huge difference in my attitude and perception.
“Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going,” John 12:35. When we realize our path is uncertain, it’s not because the path isn’t set, it’s because the path lies in darkness. Doubt causes us to walk in darkness on our own. But when we turn to God, He walks with us and the path will reveal itself in His light.
