The nation’s top high school football talent is converging at Kūnuiākea Stadium for the 2024 Polynesian Bowl, where 100 standout seniors will take the field this Friday at 4:00 p.m. HST (9:00 a.m. EST). Fans can catch the action live on the NFL Network.
This prestigious game marks its fourth year on the hill and will highlight two Kamehameha Schools Kapālama seniors, Keahi Kuikahi and Nui Kaʻapana, who are eager to represent their school and culture on a national stage. Director of Campus Athletics and Human Performance Rob Hesia said it is an honor to host the event.
“Kamehameha Schools is proud to continue fostering partnerships that celebrate and elevate our cultural heritage,” Hesia said. “Our Warriors exemplify ʻōiwi leadership and demonstrate the power of cultural pride through their achievements on and off the field. Together, we honor our traditions while paving the way for a vibrant future.”
Growing up in Waiʻanae, Kuikahi has been playing football for as long as he can remember, calling the field his second home and Warrior teammates his family. Being a student-athlete has taught him discipline, adaptability and how to find purpose in life.
“I love our coaches because they teach us a more meaningful football,” Kuikahi said. “We all have a ‘why’ we play football. I’ve always done it because it’s fun and I have my boys.”
The safety looks forward to the unique opportunity to connect with players and coaches from across the country and hopes he can be a strong representative of the values and lessons he has learned at Ke Kula ‘o Kamehameha.
“Being a leader means pushing others to lead, too,” Kuikahi said. “ʻŌiwi leaders set a path for others to follow so that everyone around them can level up.”
During halftime, the Kamehameha Schools Marching Band and Hawaiian Ensemble will dazzle the crowd with performances of hula and mele, celebrating the rich cultures across Moananuiākea.
