See some of the cool, innovative elements of the Innovative Clock Tower design that earned the KS Kapālama Robotics team top honors in the Flik National Gingerbread House Contest.

Ingenuity and creativity were the magic ingredients in the Kamehameha Schools Robotics team’s entry in the Flik Independent School Dining National Gingerbread House Competition.
The Robotics team took first place in the student-assisted category, which included a $250 prize, for their entry “Interactive Clock Tower.” Their gingerbread house had different motorized elements and a functional clock built into the design.
“We offered a six-week class to learn how to build, bake and decorate gingerbread,” shared Christa Collins, Flik director of dining services at KS Kapālama.
“The students did everything on their own with the exception of actually baking the dough. They designed, made and cut the dough, we just baked it for them due to time constraints. Once baked and cooled, they assembled and decorated their entry.”
After winning the in-house contest sponsored by Flik at KS, students moved on to the national competition.
“Their gingerbread house was unbelievably creative and super cool!” said Collins.
In addition to the student awards, Flik at KS baker Nixon Dabalos won second prize in the individual associate competition for his Hawaiian Treehouse design.
