Aloha e ka ʻohana o Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha,
As we huipū in observance of the one-year remembrance of the Maui fires, we hold close the precious lives lost and send our deepest aloha and pule to their ‘ohana, friends, and the larger Lahaina community. Their strength and resilience through the tragedy, and this difficult past year, remind us of the importance of standing together, supporting one another, and embodying the spirit of aloha that defines our Kamehameha Schools ʻohana.
Today, we come together not only to reflect and honor but also to offer healing and mutual support, continuing to mālama and comfort those in need. E pule kākou and share in the reflections from Kamehameha Schools Maui Kahu Kanani Franco and some of our Maui haumāna in this video.
In this time of remembrance, let us draw inspiration from Ke Aliʻi Pauahi, who taught us to respond to adversity with faith, love and compassion. May we continue to be guided by these values, knowing that through our collective efforts, we can accomplish more than we might ever ask or imagine.
Mahalo nui loa for all that you have done and continue to do to kōkua Maui ʻohana and communities. As we move forward, let us hoʻomau and holomua together, bound by the enduring light of Ke Akua.
Ke aloha nui,
Jack Wong
