Kamehameha Schools Kapālama students in kumu Leah Kihara’s video production class gained first-hand experience when Spectrum’s television production crew utilized MidKiff Learning Center’s state-of-the-art video studio, on Aug. 31, for the taping of three commercials for the ongoing “Give with Pauahi” campaign.

“It was really interesting to see how so many different parts can come together to create the end product. Everyone was very contributive and this experience helped me capture a glimpse into this career,” said Ciera Abrigo, a senior at KS Kapālama.

KS senior Kanaikoa Tolentino added, “It fascinated me to see how the director was able to manipulate the lighting to create a more dramatic and dynamic background for the shoot.”

Coincidentally, Spectrum’s director was Peio Pualoa, a 2005 graduate of Kapālama, who vividly remembers being in the same class and studio as a student – an experience that sparked an interest to pursue an education in film at the University of Texas-Austin and a career in television production.

“As a student, you are aware of what is given to you, but it’s not until you’ve gone out in the world and experience life that you realize the magnitude of Pauahi’s gift,” Pualoa said. “Engaging in a campaign like this, and especially coming back on campus to film, really brings a sense of appreciation for the educational opportunity I received.”

The commercials will run throughout the months of September and October during KS Kapālama football games aired on Spectrum OC16's XCast1 and XCast2, including tonight's game against Kahuku at 7:30 p.m.
