Hālau Mauli Ola offers high school summer courses

Dec. 31, 2018

New this year, Kula Kiʻekiʻe summer courses that are a part of Hālau Kupukupu will be offered under a new catalog and program through our high school called Hālau Mauli Ola.

Hālau Mauli Ola builds and extends upon the ‘ike mauli (foundational knowledge) through ways of knowing extended beyond the regular school year and to allow you to prepare for what is beyond high school through college, career, and life learning educational opportunities.

Hālau Mauli Ola seeks:

  • to create intentional experiences that value and exercise creativity,
  • to provide opportunities where students are able to discover the importance of critical thinking in applying academic knowledge in various situations and settings,
  • to promote student advocacy for their own learning and planning and taking initiative moving forward,
  • to advance one’s perseverance when faced with challenges,
  • to foster leadership skills among individual students and groups of students,
  • to be adaptive in a myriad of circumstances and situations,
  • to cultivate within an individual the importance of managing time and creating a plan for accomplishing a goal,
  • to nurture one’s ability to communicate and present effectively and with pride; and
  • to provide conditions where students are able to find reliable and accurate information; and analyze, synthesize, and make inferences from information and data.

The program features three pathways (Nā Meheu)

  • Meheu Kula Nui – College trail
  • Meheu ʻOihana – Career trail
  • Mehau Ola Mau – Life readiness

Different courses fall under each of these trails. Exciting offerings include college tours and dual credit opportunities, along with enrichment and elective courses, as well as a chance to earn and complete required core courses.
