There are a number of important updates to share with all of you regarding construction projects on campus, which will have an impact on our operations into the school year. Much care and attention is being placed to try and minimize these impacts. Know that we will continue to evaluate and make improvements as we learn more after we return to normal operations. We will continue to provide relevant details on our various channels so you can be informed when coming on campus.
Several new projects have been initiated at the start of summer including:
NEW DESIGNATED STUDENT PARKING AREA
To accommodate the temporary loss of the student parking lot for the first half of the school year, adjustments are being made to relocate student parking to the visitor and staff parking lot in front of Koaiʻa Gymnasium. Students should only park in their designated spaces which are reserved until 3 p.m. on school days. Students will need to apply for one of the available stalls and will be selected according to different criteria including distance traveled, if the student is on a modified schedule, family work schedules, and more.
Kula Kiʻekiʻe ʻohana and haumāna, please watch your emails for more information regarding parking space applications and criteria, or take the time now to try and coordinate carpooling where you can. Students do need to be a registered parker in order to drive to school during the regular school day.
NEW HIGH SCHOOL DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP AREA
Paiʻea Stadium will no longer be available as a space for student drop-offs or pick-ups. All drop-offs and pick-ups for high school students should take place at the newly designated area fronting Kekuʻiapoiwa Learning Center, before the bus ramp area. There is signage in that space to mark the area.
After school, please be aware that certain lanes in the Paiʻea Stadium parking lot have been closed for construction, and others will be used for bus staging. Parents may be able to use the first two lanes for waiting after-school on a space available basis, but they should meet their keiki at the designated pick-up area by Kekuʻiapoiwa. If picking up multiple grade levels, we do encourage older students to walk to the pickup area for their younger siblings.
Once the new parking and drop-off/pick-up area is finished (anticipated in January), additional information will be sent to our kauhale with an update on that transition.
FACULTY, STAFF, VENDOR, AND VISITOR PARKING
The ma kai Hale Peʻa near Keawe will be coming down before the start of the school year to open up additional faculty and staff parking. Improvements and markings will also be added to create temporary parking spaces for faculty, staff and vendors in the areas behind Keawe Dining Hall and Pākī/Konia. These areas should only be utilized by faculty, staff, and vendors unless instructed by security.
Faculty, staff, and visitors can also utilize open/not student designated stalls in the Koaiʻa lot or follow any instructions by security on which areas are available in the event of overflow parking needs.
Additional considerations may be needed for events and games, so please follow the instructions of security staff when driving on campus.
GAME LOCATIONS
The resurfacing of the track in Paiʻea Stadium will have an impact on when games will be allowed to take place in the stadium. Our athletics department will be monitoring the progress of the project and will schedule things accordingly. Please be sure to confirm the location of games ahead of time. Until the resurfacing work has been completed, the stadium area should be avoided unless authorized by our athletics department.
ONGOING PROJECTS
There are also several projects which have been underway since earlier this year including:
Both WCLC and Koaiʻa Lānai extensions are anticipated to continue through January.
All students, faculty, staff, ʻohana and guests should continue to avoid active construction areas while work is ongoing. Be sure to utilize the alternative walkways/crosswalks and remain aware of your surroundings when moving around any of these areas.
Mahalo in advance for your patience and understanding as these upgrades and improvements are made to our kula. Mālama pono!
One of the larger impacts will be to the designation of parking spaces to accommodate student parking. All parking will shift to the Koaiʻa lot until the new student parking lot is completed. As a result, spaces will be limited.
