Reflections and opportunities

Reflecting on progress, recognizing success, and adjusting where opportunity exists is critical for Kamehameha Schools to be the role model of sustainability that our keiki both need and deserve. We hope that increasing transparency through annual sustainability reporting will support transformational change needed to reach KS’ Vision 2045 of a thriving lāhui.

Like many organizations on the journey of institutionalizing sustainability, KS has impacts to celebrate and opportunities to improve. Our progress and priorities are summarized below.

Clean Energy is a top priority with a strategic target to reduce energy use through conservation, efficiency, and renewables by 30% by 2030 at core sites including schools, offices, and other key real estate sites.
Local food production and consumption
As a global leader in native species protection, KS continues to partner, learn, and advance culturally-based ‘āina stewardship practices as a part of ongoing natural resource management.
