Andrew Scott is our new Japanese language teacher.
Andrew is thrilled to be able to share his passion for the Japanese language and culture with the Kamehameha School students and families.
Japanese has been his life since he first lived in Japan at age sixteen.
He has taught for
twelve years at public and private schools, at all levels from elementary to college, most recently, serving as the principal/Japanese teacher at the Sheridan Japanese School in Oregon.
Andrew has a BA in Japanese from Pacific University and a MA in Japanese Language & Pedagogy and MEd from the University of Oregon.
He has also served on the boards of the NCJLT (National Council of Japanese Language Teaching, now AATJ) and ATJO (Association of Teachers of Japanese in Oregon).
Outside of his love for teaching and anything Japanese, he is interested in traveling, cooking, learning languages, as well as Sci-Fi movies and literature.
Andrew looks forward to creating a Japanese language program which is intense, but fun and rewarding, one that allows students to not only experience the Japanese language and culture first-hand, but become able to reflect, in Japanese, on their own cultures, families, and lives. He looks forward to meeting all of you and is honored to be selected for this position.
