About me

A career in education seems to have been my destiny. My first major in college was fashion design, but the course of my direction shifted and led me to change my major to the field of education. I have had a very fulfilling career so far, teaching in various capacities for the past 26 years. I began as an early childhood educator, after which time I taught GED and ESL classes for a non-profit organization on Maui. My career then took me to Maui Waena Intermediate School, where I taught Social Studies and English Language Arts, and on to Kamehameha Schools Maui, where I have been an English Language Arts teacher for the past 15 years. I earned my Bachelor’s degree, teaching certification, and Master’s degree in Education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa. I also completed the Online Instructor Training Institute certification course, as well as extensive coursework in Hawaiian history and culture. I enjoy designing my own curriculum, and I am currently working on transforming my lessons into a totally digital format. I truly enjoy working with middleschoolers, and I believe strongly in nurturing students’ ability to be proficient readers and competent, creative writers. I have also worked out a way to incorporate my love of fashion into my career. Just ask any of my students!
