About me

Aloha! My name is Cyndi Fernandez and I am the Elementary Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator. I was born in California and moved to Maui when my island-born parents wanted to come home. I attended Kihei and ʻIao School and graduated of Baldwin High School. I earned a Bachelorʻs of Education degree and a Masterʻs in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa . I have been an educator for the past 26 years. I began my teaching career as a student teacher at Hanahauoli School on ʻOahu and continued there as a Kindergarten Summer School teacher/interim director. I was a reading teacher at Kalihi Waena Elementary for grades 3-6. After college I moved back home to Maui and taught grades K and 1 at Kihei Elementary School and Kindergarten at Kahului School. In 1996, I began teaching Kindergarten at Kamehameha Schools Maui (KSM) at the original campus in Pukalani. I taught Kindergarten for 18 years here and this is my fourth year as the Elementary School Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator. In 2011 I became a National Board Certified Teacher. I live in Kahului with my husband, Thomas. My son, Trey (KSM 2012) is an Engineer and works on Oahu. My daughter, Kūlia (KSM 2017) attends Pacific University. I enjoy traveling to new places, spending time with family and friends, DIY home projects and making jewelry. Even though I am not a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, I am touched by Pauahiʻs legacy. It has been an honor to teach our haumana and I am grateful to Pauahi for giving me the opportunity to serve our Native Hawaiian keiki.
