For new junior boys song director Josiah Hernandez, Song Contest is an opportunity to showcase the hard work and effort they committed to as a class. And when it all comes together, it's the best. He and the men of the class of 2019 will honor Queen Emma with the mele "Kaleleonālani" composed by Sylvester Kalama and arranged by Timothy Ho. There is #moretothemele than music alone. Mele connects us to our language, to people and place, and to the communities we serve. Through that connection to their identity, greater civic engagement and a growing sense of their kuleana to lead, our haumāna join their generation’s movement to improve themselves, their communities and their lāhui. Watch the 98th annual Kamehameha Schools Song Contest on Friday, March 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. on KGMB or online at http://www.ksbe.edu/songcontest.
