Merrie Monarch Festival and hula haumāna

April 20, 2022

King Kalākaua once said, “Hula is the language of the heart, therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people.” This week’s Merrie Monarch Festival is dedicated to the memory of the king. As we enjoy the beautiful hula and mele from nā hula hālau and performers across the pae ‘āina in this week’s festival, we reflect on the amazing performances put on by our haumāna throughout the year. Enjoy this amazing performance of Weldon Kekauoha’s “Lei Ho‘oheno” by our talented Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i haumāna.
