Wish Upon a Lau Hala Star

September 22, 2022

Māhele Lalo haumāna had an opportunity to learn lau hala weaving from volunteer Gail Kuba. Through this hands-on project, haumāna connected with the artistry of their kūpuna, learning more about the importance of the hala tree to Native Hawaiians and its usage in everything from mats to pāpale. Kuba taught the haumāna to weave a wehi hōkū — star ornament.
