Urban Lū‘au features traditional eats with a twist

October 27, 2016

Hawai‘i Food and Wine Festival chefs served up poke, laulau and kūlolo traditionally and with a twist at the festival’s Urban Lū‘au held on October 26, at SALT at Our Kaka‘ako.  Foodies flocked to the culinary event which featured urban eats by local chefs Mark Noguchi, Peter Merriman, Try Terorotua and Eddie Lopez; San Francisco Chef Ravi Kapur, and New York Chef Chung Chow. Proceeds from the Kamehameha Schools-sponsored event will benefit local charities including the Maui Culinary Academy, the Culinary Institute of the Pacific, Paepae o Heʻeia and the Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau.

The KS retail complex SALT at Our Kakaʻako is named after the pa‘akai (salt) ponds that once dotted the low-lying wetlands of this area. SALT will be an epicenter for local culture, food, shopping and innovative events.
